This song got it's title from my short love affair with the Dave Brubeck song, "Blue Rondo a la Turk". While that song is smooth whilst deliberately stating the 9/8 overlay I wanted my tune to be short, stilted and funky. I also loved artists that used short instrumental breaks to separate tracks (Dave Matthews, Bela Fleck, etc) and while Prince Afka became a bull blown instrumental, we kept Rhonda short to make it what it was: a brief escape before our last couple tracks.
Also worth note is my notorious lack of ability to write for keys. Dave Cohen had just come back from a stint with Amanda Marshall and was kind enough to drag his leslie cab up my apartment building's stairs to record on a bunch of the tracks. He basically improvises this whole tune in what was unanimously agreed to be the finishing touch.
